ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minneapolis City SC travelled to Glendale, Wisc. on Friday to face Bavarian United ahead of what would prove its worst loss of the 2024 season.
“[We’ll] do what we can to prepare ourselves, ‘cause we go right back to them next Friday down in Milwaukee,” said goalkeeper Daniel Sessler ahead of the game. “We’ll have a five-and-a-half hour, six hour trip, and it’s not a trip we want to go down to Milwaukee for and lose. So it’s just put our heads down and keep working towards the next one.”
The evening’s result did nothing to lend any merriment to the Crows’ coach ride back to the City of Lakes, as City were shut out for the third-straight game, while four Bavarians made their way onto the scoresheet.
Bienvenu Djunga (11’) and Daiki Kumakawa (24’) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at halftime. Seth Stewart (73’) and Zach Hult (90’) put the game well beyond reach in the second half. And where Minneapolis had lost both of its previous games against Milwaukee via conceding a lone goal after the 80th minute, in the pair’s third meeting of the summer, it was all-Bavarians, all the time.
“Just simply a horrible performance from us today,” said head coach Justin Oliver. “Poor on the ball, poor defensively, poor competitively from us. I wasn’t good enough today, the guys weren’t good enough, team loss top to bottom and going forward we are all going to be better because simply put we have to be.”
